
GS APRED NDERA is a Groupe Scolaire (combined school) offering both general education and TVET programs at the secondary, and vocational levels. The school is located in Ndera Sector and serves a diverse student body from the surrounding community and beyond.
Established in 1984 by the Association for the Promotion of Education (APRED), it has grown Into a reputable institution known for its academic rigor and practical skills training. As of 2025, the school enrolls approximately 200 students (from S1 up to upper secondary S6, including O’Level and A ‘Level streams, as well as vocational training courses).
The student population includes both day scholars and boarding students (boarding facilities are provided for around 150 students, mainly at the secondary level). There here are 15 teachers and 10 support staff employed, all meeting the required qualifications for their roles per national standards.
Academic and Training Programs: GS APRED NDERA follows Rwanda’s national curriculum and offers a range of academic and vocational programs:
- General Education: A full Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) is delivered at secondary levels, covering core subjects (Kinyarwanda, English, French, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Social Studies, etc.) and optional subjects at upper secondary (such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Economics depending on combinations). Emphasis is placed on languages (trilingual instruction as per policy), STEM subjects, and critical thinking skills.
- TVET Trades: In line with the school’s mission to provide practical skills, GS APRED NDERA offers Technical and Vocational courses as per the Rwanda TVET Board. Currently, the school has vocational training programs in Automobile Repair And Maintenance, Automotive electricity and electronics, Automotive body work, Domestic Electricity, Hospitality and Catering, Fashion Design and Garment Making, Welding, Hair Dressing and Beauty Industry, Tailoring, ICT and Computer Maintenance, Computer Application. These trades were selected based on local and national labor market demand. Students in upper secondary may choose the TVET track, graduating with Level 3—5 certificates under the RTB qualifications framework. The school continually reviews its TVET offerings to align with new opportunities for example, exploring adding Food Processing or Renewable Energy Technology courses the future, in response to Rwanda’s development needs.
- Cross-Cutting and Co-Curricular: The school integrates cross-cutting courses in ICT (basic computer skills for all students), Entrepreneurship (to foster job-creation mindset), and Civic Education (Itorero/lngando values training). Co-curricular clubs and activities include debates, science club, agriculture club, anti-GBV club, sports teams, and more, providing students with enrichment beyond the classroom.
